This September, the World Rowing Championships will return to the United States for the first time in 20 years and the 2017 World Rowing Championships, Embracing Our Differences and Benderson Development Company have partnered on a new initiative called “Adopt a Team.”  During the competitions, students from Sarasota and Manatee counties will attend and be exposed, educated and provided international experiences all while gaining knowledge about the countries participating in the regatta. For example, students at one school are researching China, while students at another school are learning about Israel.

An additional educational component of the Adopt a Team initiative is artwork created by more than 2,200 students at 40 schools during the spring of 2017.  The art represents the life and culture of 59 of the countries participating in the 2017 World Rowing Championships.  Embracing Our Differences will display the art in a bill-board size format at the Nathan Benderson Park as they do each spring during its annual Embracing Our Differences Exhibit in downtown Sarasota. More than 40,000 spectators, 1,700 athletes and 6,000 students are expected to see the artwork up close and personal.

What may be the most exciting part of the Adopt a Team initiative for the students, will be the opportunity to attend the 2017 World Rowing Championships. Those students will travel to the event, observe the competitions, cheer on their "adopted" teams, have the opportunity to meet with participating athletes and view the Embracing Our Differences Rowing Art Exhibit.

Students will have the opportunity to play a small role in something that is much bigger than themselves while learning the importance of being a good global citizen.

To participate in this free field trip opportunity, schools must complete and submit this registration form
Participation is strictly limited to students, teachers and chaperones who have received an invitation from their school district.

Upon submission, you will receive an email providing an Authorization Code and other important information. You will need this Authorization Code to complete bus arrangements with your district transportation department.  It will also permit Embracing Our Differences to be billed directly for your field trip. You must make your arrangements for your school buses directly with your district's transportation department.

Thank you for your participation in the Adopt a Team initiative which is generously underwritten by the 2017 World Rowing Championships, Benderson Development Company and Embracing Our Differences.
