Thirty Sarasota & Manatee County art teachers participated in Embracing Our Differences' 5th Annual Art Teacher Retreat. This two-day retreat was presented in partnership with Ringling College and the curriculum and instruction department of the Sarasota County school district. The workshop was designed to reinvigorate educators teaching practices while inspiring their art and art integration skills. Teachers created art as they learned new skills and strategies for inspiring their students.
Embracing Our Differences is extremely proud to have been the first organization selected to contribute a permanent sculpture to the City of Sarasota's public art project for 16 round-abouts to be constructed by 2023. Thanks to a generous contribution from One Palm, Sarasota's newest luxury apartment homes, the sculpture was erected April 17 at the corner of Main Street and Orange Avenue. After a national call to artists and an invitation to 50 artists selected by the Public Arts Committee, the project was awarded to S. Blessing Hancock, a world-renowned artist based in Tucson, AZ. The 20-foot tall work is based on a double-looped infinity symbol that shines with the rainbow colors of our logo. Photos courtesy of Barbara Banks, Rod Millington and Carlos Munoz.
A reception was held at Ringling College of Art + Design for the winning artists and quoters featured in the 2016 Embracing Our Differences outdoor juried international art exhibit.
