We all have a flame burning INSIDE of us; donít try to brighten yours by dimming someone elseís.

Artist Statement

My artwork depicts a marching band. The two musicians in the front and the one in back are black and white, while the one in the middle is in full color. I created this piece by thinking of a phrase that I could make literal. I thought of “March to Your Own Beat.” I immediately thought of someone leaping, showing their personality, while the rest of the band was plain and marched to someone else’s beat. To me, embracing our differences means that we shouldn’t be embarrassed to show our personality, that people shouldn’t be made fun of because they are weird, or crazy. The marcher in the middle is playing, and marching to his own beat. He wasn’t scared to be crazy or weird.
